CanIron VII Ness Creek SK

Submitted by Fernie Forge on Thu, August 13, 2009

Every two years blacksmithing enthusiasts get together somewhere in Canada to listen and learn from demonstrators and each other. This year the event was held at Ness Creek, Saskatchewan. For three days in August participants gathered round; watching and helping a steel obelisk rise with individual panels depicting the theme of journeys. The food was excellent, camping facilities and hot showers plentiful, the company inspiring. Singing round the campfire on the last evening preceded a walk to the new obelisk to hear a symphony on sound sculptures under the stars. Thanks to all the organizers and volunteers for making CanIron VII such a special experience.

CanIron VI Victoria BC

Submitted by Fernie Forge on Sat, July 7, 2007

Vancouver Island Blacksmiths’ Association graciously hosted Canada’s biennial blacksmithing conference, CanIron VI, held at the Luxton Fairgrounds from June 29 – July 2 2007. The event appealed to anyone with an interest in metal-working, either architectural or artistic, and offered something to everyone who attended. Although there were world class blacksmiths demonstrating, the young Canadian blacksmith Daniel Orton stole the show for me. His sculptural talent and skill is outstanding.
